Whole Wheat Cake with Plums and Ginger

Good morning and happy new week! The end of summer is the time of the year with the greatest variety of fruit. It’s really hard to choose among peaches, plums, grapes and figs. Pears and the first apples arrive, announcing spicy cakes that make you feel at home… Today’s Whole Wheat Cake with Plums and Ginger is a simple cake, with little sugar and little fat, ideal for a healthy and light breakfast.

Being rich in fiber, this Whole Wheat Cake with Plums and Ginger is also perfect for those like me who have problems with their cholesterol, because it seems that eating plenty of fiber helps to maintain a level of LDL and HDL in normal values. In addition, this delicately spicy cake, made with lots of juicy plums, treats us to a delicious breakfast, which boosts our energy and our mood, without burdening us with calories. Whole wheat cake with plums and ginger

A delicately spicy low fat cake, filled with delicious juicy plums.


  • 2 eggs
  • 70 g of dark brown sugar
  • a pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoonful of ground ginger
  • the grated zest of 1 lemon
  • 50 ml of sunflower oil
  • 100 g of flour
  • 80 g of whole wheat flour
  • 8 g of baking powder
  • 4 or 5 plums, cut into slices



Beat the eggs with the sugar, salt, ginger and lemon peel until fluffy.


Incorporate the oil.


Add the flour and the baking powder and gently fold in with a hand whisk or a spatula, without stirring too much.


Pour the thick batter into a greased 20 cm baking pan and spread with the back of a spoon.


Decorate the surface of the cake with the plum slices and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 30 minutes.


Serve cold, sprinkled with icing sugar.
