Good morning, everyone! Here we are again at the monthly appointment with “Around the world with apple sweets“, in which I participate with my dear friends Simona from the blog Pensieri e Pasticci and Miria from the blog Due Amiche in Cucina! The dessert I am proposing today is a real delight, and it is also prepared very quickly. Irish Apple Cake is a really unique apple sweet! It has a fabulous crust and is delicately spiced, in a slightly different way. In Ireland, the spices that accompany apples and the sweets made with them are usually cloves and nutmeg, whereas we mainly use cinnamon or lemon zest. I assure you however, that Irish Apple Cake is a great discovery and the particular mix of spices gives it an amazing taste! Moreover, it is very easy to prepare and with this recipe, you can make it without a scale, using only a glass and a spoon 😉 Now I must run friends, but not without leaving the recipe and if you try it, promise to let me know!
A lovely life to all and see you at my next recipe,
Irish apple cake
A super delicious, and unusually spiced apple cake that is so easy to make
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1/2 cup of sunflower oil
- 2 tablespoons milk
- a pinch of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 5 heaping tablespoons of all purpous flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 large apples (cut into small chunks)
- a couple of tablespoons of sugar (for dusting)
With a hand whisk, whip the egg with the sugar, the salt and the spices.
Incorporate the oil and then the milk.
Fold in the sifted flour with the baking powder and for last, the chopped apples. The batter will be quite dense.
Pour the batter into single-portion baking pans (or into a single 20 - 22 cm cake pan), buttered and floured and then level the surface.
Sprinkle the surface of the cakes with sugar and bake in a preheated oven at 170°C for 20 - 25 minutes. If you use a single cake pan, extend the time for 5 - 10 minutes.
Let it cool down for a few minutes before unmolding.
Irish Apple Cake is one of the most delicious apple treats ever tasted, it will make your tastebuds dance!
